New Players arrive as Otters look to grow teams

As the Otters start to return for their Pre-Season training, the club has been working during the summer to add new players and teams.

Currently the club supports around 100 youngsters from the age of 8 upwards across sides from Under 10s to Under 16s. With a growing waiting list the decision was taken by the coaches to add new teams for the new 2023-2024 season at Under 7, 9 and 10s

With all the teams currently full, we are also looking at making space for players in our current teams were possible .

Open community sessions are advertised on our Facebook pages so come along and give football a go !

Awards Night 2023

The end of season annual awards night was held at SRFU once more this season as the parents, supporters players and coaches gathered to celbrate another great season.

A record number of awards were handed out this year to recognise players that not only achieved on the pitch but have demonstrated many of the clubs core values such as resilence and respect.

Tom Wilson, coach of the Under 15s explained "The awards are a rare opportunity for all our teams to come together and for the players to hear about the other teams and feel part of the Scalby family"

Of the awards handed out the prestigious "Player Player of the Year" was hotly contested in each age group.

Some of the winners are shown below.

Season Ends on a High for Under 13s

Scalby Under 13s completed an historic double securing the Minor League Cup along with their recent League championship.

The team has had a terrific season on and off the field including several away days to help build team spirit and social skills.

The U13s added the two trophies to last season's Cup triumph and hope more will follow next season

Team Managers Mark Draper and Phil Fletcher are delighted with the season. Phil said "It's been a challenging few months and we've seen a lot of cancelled games which is made it hard to keep the players match ready but then we've had a large number of games in quick succession and the lads have stepped up to the mark"

Mark Draper added "There are only a small amount of teams now in this age group but we've been able to play against other sides from neighbouring districts like York to make sure the team has plenty of games and no gaps. Hopefully, the league will grow a little more next season. We are really pleased for the team"

Scalby gear up for return to action

Scalby Juniors U10s, 11s, 12s and 13s are getting ready to return to competitive football after grassroots football was given the green light by the Government and the FA. A number of players have been training in socially distanced bubbles in the last few weeks and now have clearance to play friendlies.

The game is coming back but will be very different for players, parents and coaches.

Players will be permitted to play games but there will be some restrictions with group celebrations banned and breaks being socially distanced.

Players will have to arrive ready to play and will need to make sure they have their own sanitiser, drinks and equipment labelled before arrival.

For coaches, the new rules require managers to record attendance and check symptoms before activities can commence.

Scalby is an FA Charter Standard club and will continue to follow the best practice guidelines from the government.

The new home kit for the 2019-2021 seasons has been leaked online ahead of the opening games on Sunday

After a series of leaked images earlier in the summer the club appears to have gone back to the traditional black and yellow stripes to mark the return to Carr Lane.

In addition, we look forward to welcoming the players and their families once more to be ambassadors for the work we do here at Sealife. Good luck to the Otters!”

New Sin Bin rule for 2019 season issued

The FA has issued further details for clubs to help them with the new sin bin run that will come into effect this season.

The rule is specifically to help improve behaviour on and off the pitch with players leaving the pitch for dissent.

For junior clubs, players can be asked to leave the pitch for 8 minutes.

Welfare Officers have welcomed the new rule and the club has committed to supporting it fully for the new season

Scalby Juniors FC return to training in July and there will be some new faces joining the Otters for the start of the season. The club will enter 5 teams in the Scarborough and District Minor League this season with Under 9s, 10s, 11s,12s and 13s.

Benny Davies, Head Coach for the U9s said "We finished strongly last season and the team faired well against some top sides during the summer friendlies. We've added some new and exciting players to the squad and we can't wait to get going"

Last Season's Under 9s also finished the season strongly bagging three tournament wins during the summer. Head Coach Matt Taylor said "We are improving lots at the moment it will be great to get back to Carr Lane and play at home again"

Sam Whitehead managed to coach the U11s to success in the SDML finals but has made the tough decision to step the players up to compete in this season's U13s league. "It's going to be a challenge for us. 11-a-side, bigger goals and pitches. The lads will find it tough but it will improve them" Whitehead said. Sam added that "We've added some new players to give us more experience and quality so we will give it a go"

Otters U12s this season will start with the same group of players after several seasons of changes. "I am really looking forward to starting with the same group of kids and carrying on the mission we started last season to improve our ball mastery and follow the England DNA"  Said Matt Eccles

Under 11s coach, Samuel Hepples is also looking to build on last years success. "It's going to be great to get the teams playing and training together more. We've got a great squad this year and I am expecting the change to 9v9 to  be a challenge"
